It’s a win for the dealer who is putting more cash in his pocket.

- They heat a home with an electric heat pump while outdoor temperatures are within the range where the heat pump performs well.
- When temperatures fall below that range, the system switches to a gas or oil furnace to give the homeowner the more efficient choice for every outdoor condition.

What this Tempstar® dealer had to say about Dual Fuel:

|
 |
Dual fuel installations are the “best of both worlds,” according to Tom Land, a Tempstar dealer from Martinsville, Indiana. Tom says he “wishes everybody would buy a dual fuel system.”

- The versatility of the ECM blower motor enables me to better tailor the airflow for customers' comfort.
- Two-stage gas heat allows longer heat cycles which better maintain a constant temperature.
- The ECM motor meets requirements to qualify for tax credits and utility rebates.
“The T8MPV furnace would serve the same purpose in climates where 80% efficiency makes sense or where venting options are limited.”
|
- “I usually set up a dual fuel system to shut the heat pump off automatically at a certain outside temperature, so the customer doesn’t have to remember to do it manually.
- To determine what temperature is right for the installation, it’s important to make an educated evaluation of the house, including the insulation, the quality of windows and doors, even the way the homeowner lives:
- Are they in and out a lot?
- Do they have a pet door leaking cold air?
- Are they on a hill where wind is a factor?
- You could do a load calculation to help determine these factors mathematically.
- Normally, I set the heat pump to shut off at 25º. In a newer, well-insulated home, I set the shut-off at 20º. For elderly customers who may like it warmer, I set it at 30º. I don’t have to go back to change many settings. If I do, it’s a simple matter of punching numbers into the thermostat.
